Introducing the Persimmon Switchel — our modern twist on one of history’s oldest hydration drinks. Also known as “Haymaker’s Punch,” switchels have been replenishing hard workers since the 17th century. By the 19th century, this tart, gingery drink was a farmer’s best friend during hay harvests, hence the nickname. Our version features our Naturally Fermented Persimmon Vinegar, which supports heart, liver, skin, and digestive health, along with real maple syrup, fresh ginger, and a pinch of cinnamon for warmth. It’s the original sports drink — and it actually tastes good.
Optional: add your favorite spirit to make it into a cocktail. We recommend a splash of Persimmon Brandy from our friends at Ventura Spirits.
What Makes a Switchel Different from Other Electrolyte Drinks?
Most commercial electrolyte drinks are loaded with sugar, artificial flavors, and synthetic additives. A switchel is the opposite — just a few real ingredients that naturally replenish what your body loses through sweat: electrolytes from the vinegar and salt, natural sugars from maple syrup, and anti-inflammatory compounds from ginger. Our Persimmon Vinegar adds an extra layer of antioxidants and a fruit-forward flavor that makes this switchel genuinely refreshing rather than medicinal.

When to Drink a Switchel
Post-workout: The electrolytes and natural sugars help replenish energy and support recovery.
First thing in the morning: A small glass on an empty stomach is a great way to kickstart digestion.
During a long hike or outdoor activity: Batch it the night before and bring it in a water bottle.
As a cocktail: Add a splash of Persimmon Brandy from our friends at Ventura Spirits for a sophisticated, low-sugar cocktail.
Make a Big Batch
Switchels are perfect for batching. Make a pitcher on Sunday and keep it in the fridge all week — it holds well for 5–7 days. Just give it a stir before serving and add sparkling water fresh to each glass to keep the fizz.
